1-4 October 2009. Anatomic Factory takes part at the exhibition Iperuranio - Il mondo ideato - (
Freeshout 2009, at ExMacelli, Prato) with the installation "The Precarious Worker Chair ", representative object of the utopic nation called The Precarious Workers Republic.
The Precarious Workers Republic (RLP) is an oligarchic republic founded on precarious work. Each worker is flexible by constitutional definition. The economic power is in the hands of a minority and there aren’t any Trade Unions. Every citizen is educated, since birth, to instability and to the impossibility to plan their own future leading to widespread symptoms of anxiety, stress and insecurity. With a birth rate consistently below zero, the population is mostly made out of elderly people, forced to work until death. RLP is located on the ashes of a European nation once known as Italy.
This wooden chair is the symbol of the Precarious Workers Republic. Every worker is given one and has to use it in its workplace at each new contract. The contract term is uncertain and determined by the stability of the chair, one leg is clearly tampered and the person’s weight is enough to break it. The worker is forced to be extremely careful and to constantly feel unstable, unsure and unable to relax. When the leg breaks the worker leaves the place to another precarious and his chair.
